Food Styling isn’t just about making food look enticing and positioning a few props like flatware or napkins around the the subject. It can be a complete out-of-the-box idea. I like to look at the shapes from non-food items and think about what food they could mimic if placed with actual food props. This was also accomplished with popcorn! In this food styling session, the idea was to mimic big scoops of delicious ice cream with items that weren’t as messy as actual ice-cream. Hydrangeas and Dianthus flowers are not only hardy flowers to work with but the textures are amazing. They create great highlights and shadows due to the nature of their petals and puffs.

What I love about hydrangeas is that they teach us that where we are planted matters…the changing colors of pink, blue, crimson & wine when moved to different soil. Just making that small shift in your life can be all that is needed to bloom and shine through.
What’s fun about the dianthus flower is not only their oh-so-soft puffs but it dates back to over 2000 years making it one of the oldest cultivated flowers varieties. The Greeks & Romans revered the plant, using its flowers for art, décor and to build their iconic garlands. 2000 years later, it is still making art.
